Vaccination Protocols

ERAH follows the American Animal Hospital Vaccine Task Force recommendations in deciding which vaccines your pet may need and how often they will be administered. Like any medical procedure, vaccines have risks, and in rare cases the risk of the vaccine may outweigh the risk of the disease we are trying to prevent. Therefore, we will not use a "one size fits all" approach to our vaccine protocols. We will keep our clients constantly updated on all the current and ever-changing vaccination recommendations.

The vaccine protocol we will recommend for your pet is an individualized assessment, based on your pet's risks of exposure to various diseases, potential seriousness of these diseases, breed/ genetic tendency to allergic or immune reactions, medical history, exposure to other animals, state and local laws,  and actual antibody titer.

We have also researched extensively all the different vaccine brands and types that are available, and have chosen our brands based on the vaccine's effectiveness and low rate of reactions. We will constantly survey the market and the literature for the vaccines that give our patients the safest and most valuable vaccines, backed up by only the most responsible and ethical manufacturers.

Though in most cases, the vaccination protocols will not require annual vaccines for adult animals, we will still recommend annual visits for your pet. The focus of our visit with your pet will be a thorough physical exam, parasite check, client education, dental and nutritional health, behavioral counseling, and early detection of any potential illness. The vaccine is not the focus of the annual exam , but, of course, if needed will be given.

As an informed client, you should also take a pro-active role in helping us decide what is best for your pet. If you know that your pet or its true genetic relatives has any history of vaccine reactions, chronic allergies, immune-mediated disease, etc., please disclose this to us before any vaccines are given.

We share the love you have for your pet-- and want your pet to be protected against potentially fatal diseases. Vaccinations are a huge part of this prevention-- as are nutrition, training, dental health, parasite prevention, and early detection of disease.  We will work with you in designing and providing the best protocols for your pet.
